The nearly 14-kilometre long Arlberg road tunnel between St. Jakob in Tirol and Langen in Vorarlberg is the longest road tunnel in Austria and the only winter-safe east-west connection between Tyrol and Vorarlberg. After 35 years of use, the renovation was primarily driven by the need for greater safety. Jäger Bau was contracted by “ARGE Sanierung Arlberg Bau” (PKE-Jäger-BeMo-Hinteregger) to conduct all above ground work.

This includes:

Construction work for the truck thermoscanner tracks in the front portal areas of St. Jakob and Langen

Modifications to the operation buildings at St. Jakob and Langen

Renovation of the gallery area at St. Jakob

New construction of gallery building including anchor winches and portal at Langen, 3 washroom facilities

Construction of an emergency staircase at the Rosanna Crossing, demolition and alteration work on the shaft heads and in the ventilation caverns, portal for underground mining work

Civil and road engineering and asphalt works in the tunnel, as well as in the front portal areas; cable ducts, water protection facilities.
